This month, I received an email from Spotify, revealing my four tops songs I’ve to listened religiously this year. 16,811 minutes of filling my ears with music isn’t considered enough, but hear me out. I usually listen to music on other music apps but decided to create a Spotify account a few months ago. That ‘s a reasonable excuse I stand by.
So as the new year’s approaching, I’ve compiled my top four songs that I’ve listened in 2017:
1. Beautiful by Crush
I mean how can you not listen to this track. Sung by Korean hip-hop/R&B singer and producer Crush, ‘Beautiful’ is the original theme song for tvN’s critically acclaimed fantasy-romance television drama ‘Goblin: The Lonely and Great God’, featuring Gong Yoo, Kim Go-eun, Lee Dong-wook, Yoo In-na and Yook Sung-jae.
The nominated song for Best OST at 2017 Mnet Asian Music Award ranked number 1 on numerous Korean music charts. Due to the immense popularity of the song, Crush had “a flood of different emotions”.
“Honestly, whenever I went to concerts and events, the audience already remembered me by connecting the song ‘Beautiful’ to my name, which I’m obviously thankful for,” he said at the 2017 Seoul International Music Fair Road Show. “However, because it was such a different style of music compared to what I was aiming for, I did fall into a pit musically.”

2. Dive by Ed Sheeran
OK, Ed Sheeran is and always will be included on my playlist. There’s no doubt about that! With all those surprising collaborations, you’d expect his chart-topping track ‘Perfect’ as the number one song from his third studio album ÷ on my playlist. I have to say, ‘Dive’ was the one for me. All it took was one play and I was instantly hooked!
Co-written with Benny Blanco and Julia Michaels, Dive was a hit on the music charts, debuting at No.49 on Billboards Hot 100 chart and at No.8 on the UK Singles Chart. Sheeran said that ‘Dive’ has themes of emotional reflection, vulnerability and a sense of devotion.
Sheeran never fails to showcase his vocals and guitar-led ballad on all his albums and ‘Dive’ is no exception.
3. Attention by Charlie Puth
Recorded and produced by American Grammy-nominated pop singer Charlie Puth, Attention is the lead single of Puth’s second studio album Voicenotes.
The midtempo pop rock song is pretty catchy filled with his emotional voice. Once it’s played, you’ll find your body dancing to the 1980s soft-soul and funk track.
“‘Attention’ was the first song for the album, and it started out as this really sad, depressing piano ballad – as most of my songs start out as – and then they become groovy, fun pop songs,”Puth told Rolling Stone.
Charlie recorded bits of the song while he was on tour in Japan in 2016.
After its release, Attention charted at No.5 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the singer’s third top ten single and his first top 5 hit on the chart since his Grammy-nominated 2015 track See You Again.
It will no doubt get your attention!
4. New Rules by Dua Lipa
New Rules is sung by British-Albanian singer Dua Lipa, who began posting covers of her favourite artists on YouTube at the age of 14.
The summer pop, break-up anthem entered in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the singer’s first number one single in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The music video is even visually appealing, its make you want to listen to New Rules over and over again.
